Climate Solutions worse than the Problem

I will admit that I am skeptical of the role humans play in climate change, but there are those less skeptical who will admit that coming climate change is manageable, not the serious problem we supposed it to be.

Let begin with the reality is that climate alarmists believe that the planet is overpopulated, and the industry required to keep this population fed and clothes is causing damaging climate warming that will cause massive famine and drought.

The problem with argument is that much of the past century proves the complete opposite.  As the planet warmed and the CO2 levels increased, the planet actually prospered as we ended up feeding more people better diets and millions left poverty to a middle-class life.  Realistically speaking, the alarmist can’t even prove that additional CO2 or warming is even bad, and a better case can be made that is actually good for the planet.

The solutions being proposed are the equal of the famous line in Vietnam, “We destroyed the village to save it.”   The alarmist mind set is similar, we will destroyed the planet to save it.  Their solutions will do exactly that.

The first aspect is the elimination of fossil fuels, but they have to develop substitute for fossil fuels and the most efficient replacement, nuclear energy, they oppose.  They support the least efficient form of energy solar and wind which can’t operate when the sun don’t shine, or the wind doesn’t blow.  Without back up from fossil fuels, these renewables are incapable of fueling modern economy.

The alarmist policies will make both food and energy policy more expensive, reducing its availability for billions of people.  We saw this in Sri Lanka when the government followed the advice of the climate alarmist ESG polices the country went from being food exporter to food importer, the economy and government collapsed.  Netherlands in attempt to reach EU carbon neutral goals have forced farmers to close farms and Canada is following up with similar stupid ideas.  These policies, happening in nations who are substantial food exporters, will reduce the yield of food produced and raise prices.  The first victim will be those who are dependent upon these exports and many in the third world will have less food and more starvation.  Billions will die as result of these policies, not by changes in climate.  Without fossil fuels, the ability to get food to the market will be compromised as those vehicles responsible will be eliminated.

The restriction of fossil fuels production in the United States have led to a rise in energy prices, and as Alex Epstein noted, we have only seen 1 to 2 percent of what the climate alarmist wants and created an energy emergency. Imagine what if we get the whole plan they want to do.

Fossil fuels are needed to expand food supplies and reduce them will lead to the opposite.   When climate alarmist claims that changes in climate will lead to massive famine, that is wrong. It is the policies that will lead them.  In the past century, famines were not the creation of climate but government policies.  They were man-made phenomenon and these policies recommendation to reduce farming yields will create man-made famines.

The other aspect of climate alarmists is that they want a colder climate even though a colder climate will lead to shorter growing season and more famine.  They are even thinking of geo-engineering by attempts to block sunlight to create a colder planet.  More people normally die in colder weather than warmer weathers, so you have to ask why to create or desire a colder climate?

You have the Biden administration and various Democratic government wanting to eliminate combustible cars in favor of electric car.  Considering there are significant disadvantages to electric vehicles just as charging time, overall limitation in miles specifically in colder weather and are more expensive. With less range and priced out of many Middle-income Americans budget, many Americas will find their personal travel options limited.  The elimination of gas-powered car will hamper the ability of many Americans to advance economically.   The battle over natural gas stove oven is another battle that will increase the cost of cooking a meal for many Middle Class.

The solutions we are hearing are about reducing our living standards and destroying the economic system responsible for our economic growth to begin with.  These solutions are anti-people and not pro-environment since they do little to help the environment or reduce CO2 emission.

Marc Morano and others made the case that the pandemic emergency were a dress rehearsal to declare a climate emergency to force changes.   The reality is that pandemic lockdown were a complete failure by every measure.  We saw lost incomes, small businesses forced out of business, children not getting educated and many people failed to follow up on treatment for serious health issues.  When you add various variables, no lives were save in lockdown states or countries versus those who did not lockdown or open up their economy earlier, but they fell behind economically and children suffered in education with minorities and the poor suffering the worse.  Hundreds of millions of people worldwide were put on the verge of starvation.

If you repeat this on with a climate change emergency, you can substitute hundreds of millions to billions on the verge of starvation.  Much of the scientific community who favored the lockdowns, did so based bad or manipulated data and skeptics were proven right.  Much of climate science has serious flaws and their solutions are worse than the problem they diagnosed.  The scientific community showed serious flaws as they prized consensus over science during the Covid pandemic and they are no different from climate science where consensus is prized over science.  The solutions proposed will produced billion of deaths, all man made.  We have more to fear from the solutions than a warmer planet.

Living in a Blue City

Brandon Johnson is the new mayor and so far, he is proving even dumber and more incompetent than Lori Lightfoot. A major league baseball manager once commented when asked can it get any worse for your team, “Yes it can.”  This weekend there were 32 shootings and 8 fatalities, and the Chicago loop saw a riot in which cars and city buses vandalized, and two additional shootings. Or as one commenter noted, just another weekend in Chicago.

Chicago haven’t had a Republican mayor in at least nine decades so you can’t blame Republican leadership and despite having one of the toughest gun control regime, crimes continue to spiral out of control.

Chicago had a choice, a left of center Democrat who at least promised to protect the community or Johnson, a hard-core leftist socialist supported by the local teacher unions. In the end, Chicago voted for more crime and disorder. While Johnson response to the recent riots was carefully worded as not give the opinion that he was not condoning the violence, he added that the violence and disorder was no reason to demonize youth.

Johnson, Cook County commissioner and a former teacher union organizer favored defunding the police and on one radio appearance stated, “about “our effort and our move to redirect and defund the amount of money that is spent in policing, redirect funds from policing and incarceration to public services not administered by law enforcement that promote community health and safety equitably.”  52% of votes opted for unicorns and ignored the hard reality that controlling crime is important in ensuring that Chicago remains a viable city and maintains civilization. There is no evidence that Johnson is genuinely interested in reducing crime. According to Chicago police every crime is up except murder, but murders are significantly up from 2019, pre Covid. Stolen car up by 135%, theft up by 22%, robbery up by 15%, burglary up by 6%, sexual assault is up 2%, and aggravated battery up by 4%.

Chicago votes do have a role in this disaster since over half of them voted for Johnson after rejecting Lori Lightfoot for her incompetence. They supposedly rejected her for her failure to provide protection to the city but yet they elected a candidate who will continue the same policies.

Johnson fiscal plan is to soak commuters, businesses and the ultra-rich while splurging on social spending. and Chicago also has a severe problem with pension spendings which makes up 12 percent of the city budget and this restrict spending in other needed areas just as public safety.

The teacher unions organized voters and helped Johnson to get over the top and those voters who voted for Vallas and some aspect of law and order will pay the price. Many of them will leave for the suburbs or simply leave Illinois to join the migration to red states.

Plant loses big time

Plant Gets Plastered By Benavidez

Caleb Plant after his loss to Canelo Alvarez came back with a brutal knockout of Anthony Dirrell and faced undefeated David Benavidez for another shot at Canelo Alvarez.  The winner will be in a position for a big money fight and Benavidez would like to be a champion again.   On paper this was the classic battle between the boxer Plant versus the power punching Benavidez .

Plant began the fight and feinted a few times while Benavidez fell short on a couple of body shots.  Plants jab to the body and then jabbed to the head before holding.  Plant won the opening rounds with his jab.

The second round saw Plant begin with a quick flurry and dodged out of the way of Benavidez punches.  Benavidez landed a good left hook while Plant circles around to land accurate fast punches to the body.  The round ended with a Plant jab .

Plant began the third round aggressively with a left hook while Benavidez attempts to cut off the ring while scoring with a left hook.  Plant was jabbing but Benavidez looked like he was starting to time Plant’s jab . Plant smiled as Benavidez scored a hard right.

The fourth saw Benavidez starting with body shots and Plant responded with body combinations of his own.  Benavidez looked for spots to land his shots but Plant defensive skills proved elusive . Benavidez connected with a left hook and Plant was forced to hold.  After four rounds, I had score 39-37 in favor of Plant, but it was a close fight with no one at this point dominating .

Benavidez went to the body at the beginning of the fifth round and Plant’s hand speed forced Benavidez to the rope and a left hook missed Plant’s head.  As the round continued, it looked like Benavidez trapped Plant in the corner but Plant spun away from the rope and Plant closed the round with a hook.

Round six saw Benavidez making moves to take over the fight as he started to close the gap against Plant.  Benavidez landed a double left and a right, Plant started to hold more.    This was the round that the fight changed in Benavidez’s favor.  I had the fight 58-56 but there was a feeling that the momentum would change and the boxer would succumb to the pressure of the slugger over the second half of the fight.

Round seven was close but I had it for Benavidez as his pressure took control of the round and he landed the harder punch.  There was one Benavidez left hook that bothered Plant.   Over the sixth and seventh round, Benavidez landed 26 punches to Plant’s 16.

Plant began the eighth round holding and he got away with lot of holding but then Benavidez hurt him.  A right-hand lead sent Plant reeling and the referee Kenny Baylas had Plant evaluated which gave Plant time to clear his head. This may have saved him from a stoppage.

Plant landed a left hook to the body after taking a left hook to his body.  Plant landed a combination but had little effect on Benavidez.  Benavidez landed a left hook to the head and to the body followed by a solid right.  After nine rounds, I had it 86-85 in favor of Benavidez but from this point it was Benavidez’s fight.

In the tenth round, Benavidez landed 43 punches which included rights to the body, uppercuts and left hand was flying and he landed 36 more punches in the eleventh round.  Plant’s corner considered stopping the fight, but Plant wanted to finish this fight on his feet.    Benavidez had not lost a round since the fifth round.   Plant came out in the final round with the goal of standing on his feet, but Benavidez landed body shots and right hands to the head but at the end, Plant unleashed a combination, landing three punches but Benavidez countered with a fierce left hook as the bell rang.

I had the fight 116-112 and the judges had it 115-113, 117-111 and 116-112.  All reasonable scores and the fight was close over the first six rounds and even the seventh could have been called in Plant’s favor but the final five rounds were easily Benavidez as his power simply overwhelmed Plant.  Benavidez landed twice as many punches and nearly three times the power shot and even landed more jabs despite Plant throwing more than double of the jabs.

Plant is the third best super middleweight, but he lost to the two best in the division by wide margin.  Alvarez stopped him in the eleventh and Benavidez dominated the last five rounds by a wide margin. Over the last five rounds, Benavidez landed 146 punches to 38 punches.  Contrast that to the first seven rounds in which Benavidez landed 64 punches to Plant’s 53.  This shows this was two fights with the first seven rounds close but the final five rounds saw complete domination by Benavidez.

For Benavidez, there are several fights available but there is one fight he wants with Canelo Alvarez.  A September match up in Mexico featuring two Mexican’s best fighters celebrating Mexican independence.  This would be a great fight with the tough rugged Benavidez against the more technically sound Alvarez.

Alvarez still is viewing Bivol rematch at the light heavyweight division and Benavidez does have other options including Jermall Charlo who is looking for a big pay day.   As for Plant, he will be a worthy opponent for any major contender for Super Middleweight including Jermall Charlo.

In case it matters, this was for the WBC interim Champion but this means Benavidez is not truly champ but he is in line to fight for a title in the future.
